How Digital Workforces Partner With Us Today and the Future

We sat down with Dr. Gokul Solai, CEO of Novatio Solutions to talk about the future of the digital workforce. Here’s his take on what we can expect over the next 25 years.

 

Question: There is a lot of talk about robots taking jobs and fear over how this will impact the human workforce. What is your view of how robots are used today and where they will be in 25 years?

Dr. Gokul Solai: I hear this question a lot! There is a ton of concern about what jobs will be replaced and what will the workforce look like in 20-30 years. We’ve seen this same type of regrowth happen in cycles as new technology is introduced over time. This is not a new thing.

 

Q: That’s interesting. You are saying that the introduction of robots is similar to other technological advances?

Solai: Exactly. Just look at the evolution of work. Twenty-five or 30 years ago in the automotive industry, a lot of people were doing mechanical and physical work like putting doors on cars, screwing on wheels, and airbrushing. Today, a lot of the repetitive work people do is digital.

 

Q: How does that apply to what will happen over the next 20 years for our current workforce?

Solai: Over the next 20 years, we can expect a minimum of 47% of the jobs in the United States will be automated. I’ve read another study that states globally, about 5.1 million jobs will be replaced by automation. That’s a lot of jobs. That’s a lot of industries. I’m sure that can make anyone nervous if they are looking at their position and thinking, “Am I going to be let go and then replaced by a robot?”

 

Q: Absolutely. What should today’s workforce think of their jobs going away like that?

Solai: The important thing to consider is that this will be a slow transition. In 30 years, most of the current workforce will be looking at retirement and younger workers will have gone through schooling and learned new technology. This isn’t a concern of jobs disappearing, the main question will be what training will be available to the next generations and how can businesses get started now so they aren’t behind when the time comes for new jobs.

 

Q: Speaking of businesses adapting and not getting left behind, what areas can they use worker robots now to begin implementing success now?

Solai: Great question. A lot of applications for our digital workers comes without having to write any code or access any APIs. We teach our robots to move the mouse to a certain area to extract information, just like you would train a human to do it. That way, we’re able to deliver on a project in a matter of weeks rather than years. This could be back-office tasks, responsive customer service, and even shortening processes in commercial transactions.

 

Q: Those don’t sound like they would be replacing anyone job today. Those sound like more of a partnership.

Solai: Correct. We love being able to partner automated processes and systems with the intelligent human aspect. People are still necessary to perform these jobs but can be made more efficient and less prone to error when we add automation into the business operation.

 

Q: What does this look like for you to come into a company and bring in this type of robot process automation?

Solai: We ultimately take a look at all the processes and current issues. We identify the goals for revenue or output as well. We then take a log at what current software and systems are in place for the worker’s task. Once we have collected all the variables for completing a task and meeting financial or administrative objectives, we comprise a unique solution to shorten, correct, automate, and track the person’s success in their work. It really is a customized approach which reaps the benefits of higher revenue and faster project completion.
